Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine prescribed to prevent the symptoms of allergies. This medicine is also used to prevent itching caused by an allergic reaction. Diphenhydramine may also be used for its sedative effects.


If you miss a dose ensure it is given as soon as possible, however, if it is almost time for the next dose then skip the missed dose and continue as normal. Ensure two doses are not administered together.

I have heard that this drug can have side effects, how will this affect my pet?

Possible side effects include: tiredness, drowsiness, dry mouth and not passing urine. If you notice anything unusual contact your vet.

Ensure this medication kept out of children’s reach. Store this medicine in a cool, dry place at room temperature. Store away from heat and direct sunlight.

Possible drug interactions

Ensure your vet is aware of any other medication you are giving your pet. Drug interaction is not uncommon when two differing medications are prescribed.
